Overlooking Chicago’s beautiful Jackson Park and The Museum of Science and Industry, Solstice on The Park is one of the largest developments in Hyde Park. The project is the second collaboration with architecture firm Studio Gang. The unique facade was designed to optimize the angle of the sun to allow the ideal combination of natural light and passive solar heat gain. A five story flat plate post-tensioned parking structure was built simultaneously to the north.

One of the most challenging aspects of the project was the variable slab edge that allowed the unique angled glass facade. Stepped baclcony details varied on each floor, requiring high shoring to support the cantilevered balcony conditions every three levels. Angled shear walls at ground level required careful coordination to ensure the heavily reinforced transition details were able to be installed.
